There is one practice laboratory in the department where the practical application of the theoretical courses are given. Research Laboratories in the department are also used in some applications.
The laboratory has Gas Chromatography (GC) instrument, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) instrument and the Olfactometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) instrument which are used for the specific analyzes such as aroma components, fatty acids and toxic substances (aflatoxin, amine etc.) and PAGE electrophoresis where the qualitative tests of the protein fractions are performed. Ultrafiltration (UF) and microfiltration (MF) assemblies of membrane technologies, which are among the emerging new techniques, are available in department laboratories and used in various researches. In addition, the rheometry and texturing analyzer used in determining the rheological and textural properties of the products is available in our laboratory.
Microbiology laboratory present in the department is well-equipped with devices enabling determination of microbiological quality of dairy products and also performing some advanced practices in microbiology field. For this purpose together with microbiological examination equipments, there is 1 PCR, 2 laminar flow cabinets and 1 microcentrifuge equipment in the laboratory.
Sensory Evaluation Laboratory
In the department there is 1 sample preparation room and 1 sensory evaluation laboratory used in sensory evaluation of dairy products.
